Is confidence crucial for success ??

Is confidence crucial for success ??

The simple answer is YES!!!

The question is, do you have the RIGHT level of it?

We can often associate confidence with being outgoing, extroverted, outspoken or loud.

This is not always the case….

Either way, the ability to achieve the right level of confidence (more of the time) for ultimate success is something we can all achieve.

WHAT IS CONFIDENCE ??

I’ll go back to the dictionary to kick things off:

“ Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.”

It’s possible to experience confidence in extremes and can be limited to particular scenarios.

However, it’s vital to remember, that confident people may not feel confident all of the time.

HOW CAN CONFIDENCE IMPACT OUR SUCCESS ??

If we lack confidence this impacts how we perceive ourselves AND how we think others perceive us too….and it’s rarely positive ??

To explain this further, I’d like to split this up into 5 main areas; mindset, self-belief, performance, influence and leadership and finally resilience and adaptability.

1. Mindset: This is always where it all begins!

Being confident is directly associated with cultivating a positive frame of mind. When we’re feeling confident, we approach things with a sense of optimism, displaying a more “can-do” attitude than we might otherwise.

You may have heard this described as an ‘abundant’ mindset….which is magnetic and alluring to others ??

Having this approach to our day-to-day tasks can open us up to exploring new possibilities, embracing new experiences and maintaining resilience when things get tough.

When we lack confidence we can be seen as operating with a negative or ‘scarcity’ mindset which leads to the total opposite of attraction…and actually repels ??

2. Self-belief:

Confidence allows us to feel more optimistic and believe that we can overcome any obstacles that could impact our ability to achieve important goals, both in our personal and professional lives.

Our self-belief can help us push and stretch our limits, be persistent in the face of challenges and setbacks, and be open to exploring something new.

Reduced levels of self-belief can at best slow us down or at worst, stop us in our tracks….this is a form of self-sabotage??

3. Performance:

When we’re confident about our contributions and abilities, we are more likely to consider taking more risks, putting forth more effort and as a result, performing at our best.

We’re able to overcome feelings of self-doubt or the fear of failure, enabling us to see AND strive to achieve our greatest potential.

Our performance is affected by low levels of confidence. We can become more of a?perfectionist, less willing to take risks, put our heads above the parapet or make bold, fast decisions in fear of failure.?

4. Influence and leadership:

This is where confidence becomes crucial. Positions of leadership rely on our ability to inspire confidence in others and demonstrate that confidence ourselves.

People are naturally drawn to confident individuals, but it also influences the way we communicate and make decisions.

If you want to improve your leadership success you must ensure your level of self-belief (and self-awareness), mindset, performance, and resilience are optimised.

Leaders who lack confidence will be quickly ‘sniffed’ out, leading to low levels of trust and that is bad place to lead from!

5. Resilience and adaptability:

This is where our confidence is tested, sometimes over a long period of?time.

With confidence, our self-belief and mindset allow us to bounce back after we face a knock to our confidence and allow us to make changes in the future to secure our success.

With low confidence, we can get easily floored as our resilience is low and our ability to adapt is impacted.

Just take a moment to consider what all the above means ??

Absolutely, confidence aids success, and with each little success, your confidence grows, and brings more success. And a lack of confidence - and imposter syndrome - gets in the way and creates procrastination and slow decision-making, inhibiting success. So you gotta keep your confidence topped up and take time to recognise and acknowledge success. …So having a super coach like you could really help!
