Confidence Comeback

Confidence Comeback

From Bare Minimum to Breakthrough

The Slump: When Even the Basics Felt Like a Burden

Now you know Ramesh Menon very well.

He had always been a sharp, capable professional. People respected him for his expertise, and on the surface, everything looked fine. But inside, he was stuck. Self-doubt had taken over.

It wasn’t as if he had completely given up—he was still doing what was required. He showed up at work, met deadlines, and handled responsibilities. But that was it. He did the bare minimum, just enough to keep things from falling apart.

Deep down, he knew he was coasting. The fire was gone.

He had convinced himself that he wasn’t capable of doing more, that he wasn’t the person he used to be. And with each passing day, the weight of his inaction made it harder to break free.

The Wake-Up Call: Seeing His Strength in the Small Things

When we first spoke about taking action to rebuild his confidence, Ramesh resisted. He dismissed the idea of a structured plan. “I don’t have the patience for this,” he said.

That’s when I shifted the approach. Instead of pushing him toward something new, I reminded him of what he was already doing—the responsibilities he handled effortlessly, the problems he solved without even thinking.

  • He never missed his morning routine, even on his lowest days.
  • He always took care of his family’s needs, no matter how drained he felt.
  • He responded to urgent emails at work without hesitation.
  • He handled unexpected crises without overthinking.

I pointed out something crucial: Even at his lowest, he was still showing up.

“Ramesh, if you can trust yourself to do the bare minimum every day, you can trust yourself to do more.”

That clicked.

The First Step: A Commitment to Just One Extra Action

Ramesh didn’t jump into a 90-day confidence challenge overnight. That would have overwhelmed him.

Instead, we started small. One extra action a day.

  • On Day 1, he set an intention: What’s one thing I can do today beyond the bare minimum?
  • On Day 2, he tackled a task he had been avoiding—not a big one, just a small, nagging thing.
  • On Day 3, he made a decision without overanalyzing it.

Bit by bit, he started proving to himself that he could take action.

The Tipping Point: When Small Wins Become Second Nature

At first, there were days when he wanted to give up. “This is pointless,” he’d say. But I reminded him: The fact that you’re showing up at all is proof that you’re breaking the cycle.

As the days passed, something shifted:

  • He stopped waiting to “feel motivated” and started acting anyway.
  • He started trusting his instincts again.
  • He realized that confidence wasn’t about never failing—it was about knowing he could handle whatever came next.

The 90-Day Transformation: Self-Trust Rebuilt

By the time he reached Day 90, he wasn’t just getting by anymore.

  • He took bold decisions at work without hesitation.
  • He stopped second-guessing himself and acted with clarity.
  • He reconnected with the energy and drive he thought he had lost.

And most importantly—he trusted himself again.

The Lesson: Confidence is Built by Action, Not Overthinking

Ramesh didn’t become unstoppable overnight. He started with what he already had—his ability to show up, even on tough days.

If you’re feeling stuck, remember: You don’t have to do something big to rebuild confidence. You just have to do something.

And one day, without realizing it, you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come!
