A weird hypothesis
I think humans have evolutionary been primed to window shop. Forget Darwin for a second and envision our ancestors in 1840's London (very relatable) tirelessly strolling and eyeballing big windows on street-level shops.
Then 1950's were different. Humans took window shopping to a whole new level. Maybe more like a four-level shopping mall.
But then our generation came along and invented windows on a computer screen that is neatly placed at eye-level. No more strolling, because today it's all about scrolling. We now have lists -- wish-lists, play-lists or even Craig's.
Hence I will make a bold statement and say...
Hunters/Gatherers or Wish-list/Gatherers
All humans window shop. We just window shop for different things.
We like to believe that one day, at some point (when the stars align), we'll get that item off our bucket list and into our lives. That's the point where we will become happy and successful and... HOLD ON!
So here are my two questions for you...
You want me to go first?
My Kinda Wish-list
Ah, well, only if you insist, my favourite list comprises BOOKS – 750 of them, to be exact. I want to read them all one day... maybe then I will become happy and successful and...ANYWAYS!
I don't just add any book to that list. I'm quite selective, and use a unique (patent pending) filter system made up of three questions.
In this article, I'll reveal just one of the questions
Q1. Did this book influence a person, whom I personally find influential?
Simple, right? I know.
One person who comes to mind is a dear friend, brother and mentor (aka GURU) Juhana Torkki. Juhana has 8 published books and with his blackbelt in rhetorics he is a renowned best-selling author and trainer in Finland. And oh boy to be a best selling writer you gotta be a pro reader to say the very least.
Unfortunately for Juhana I often bore him with questions like "Hey Juhana what are you reading now?" or "Hey Juhana what do you think of this book?" and my personal favourite "Hey Juhana what is the one book that influenced you the most?". I was naive and thought it's one book. Apparently there is a few books, (or in my case 750).
Another person who comes to mind is a fellow trainer who is very influential in his field -- Gleb Maltsev , a data-driven pitch coach with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Over the course of 11 years, Gleb has trained thousands of professionals to speak to audiences with clarity and meaning.
Speaking of which I'm thrilled to announce that Gleb will be taking part in our upcoming Science Pitchers Community Launch & will hold a Pitching Workshop on March 23, 16:00 - 18:00 GMT+2. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn from the master himself and elevate your science pitching skills.

Back to Gelb's story...
Even though our physical paths cross once every 2 years in various pitching events. Our virtual social-media paths cross a lot more often!
What inspires me about Gleb is how many books he reads and then publicly and proactively referencing those books in everything he does-- whether a social media post or a pitching workshop. He's like a human library to the extent that I created a dedicated shelf for his recommendations just to keep up! (secret fan boy, or stalker?)
You can check it out here ?? "Gleb's Bundle" ??
If you want more recommendations let me know in the comments below, I have read 300 books thus far.
But wait....my two questions remain:
CEO at Tacit Space
1 年Is this a new psychoanalysis technique? I constantly window shop for AV equipment, can we safely say that my unconscious is hankering for content production? ??
