I use LinkedIn as my primary social media tool, and I appreciate what it does to help me grow my business.
But as great as social media is for networking with new and existing business peers, in my book it still takes a back seat to conferences.
The best, and also the most profitable relationships I have made, have been at conferences.
A webinar is great, but it doesn’t come close to match sitting in the room listening to a presentation from a subject-matter expert, or panel of experts.
A telephone call is productive, but not nearly as productive as having a beverage or meal with a client, or even just standing outside the exhibit hall and chatting for a few minutes.
Reading blogs and articles are a super way to pick up new ideas, but something about a face-to-face conversation with an industry leader kindles not only the best ideas from all parties, but the force behind the ideas.
In addition, if I’m at the right industry event, I can see more important contacts in two days than I might be able to see in six months otherwise.
