ACE Mentor San Diego held its 4th Annual Trades Day at the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center on November 16, 2024! More than 100 students toured the active construction site and gained hands-on experience with the various trades working on the project. Gafcon team members attended and played a key role in planning the event, helping to provide students with a unique, behind-the-scenes look at careers in construction. The day offered valuable insights as students engaged directly with skilled professionals, exploring the vital roles that bring such a large-scale development to life. One of the highlights was our panel session, “Navigating Labor in the Education Environment,” where Cade McMullin expertly moderated a lively discussion with Lizette Rodriguez, John Atherton of Bernards, and Dr. Joel L.A. Peterson, Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management at San Diego Community College District. Congratulations to Brian Browning for being recognized as one of San Diego’s Top Veteran Leaders of Influence! With over 38 years of exemplary leadership, team building, and resource management experience, Brian’s impact is profound. A retired Navy Civil Engineering Corps Officer, Brian’s distinguished military career included serving aboard the USS Ohio SSBN-726, completing seven Pacific deployments, and holding key roles on the USS Ford FFG-54 and USS Rainier AOE-7, where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. His expertise in construction and engineering was further refined during his roles at Naval Special Warfare Group Three and Naval Base San Diego. Since transitioning to civilian life, Brian has continued to inspire, leading Gafcon’s Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College Bond Construction Program with precision, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to delivering projects on time and under budget. On Sunday, November 3, Gafcon team members enjoyed a beautiful morning at the Susan G. Komen More than Pink Walk, joining thousands in support of breast cancer awareness and critical research funding! The More than Pink Walk is Susan G. Komen’s largest annual fundraiser, bringing together communities nationwide to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and inspire progress toward a cure. It was a powerful experience to walk side by side with survivors, supporters, and advocates—all united for a future without breast cancer.
