Conference & Events Top Trends

I connect people through content and conversation on stages around the world to their companies, communities or future business space as a conference speaker and facilitator
As we journey through the remainder of this change-filled decade, our industry is transforming, being driven by a craving for more meaningful connections, the transformative power of technology, and a stronger focus on sustainability and embracing diversity. Here are my thoughts on the key global themes that are distinctly emerging and will shape the future of conferences and events.
At the Heart: Human Connection
I'm seeing a shift towards creating experiences in events that resonate on a more personal and deeper level with attendees. Gone are the days when conferencing was just about the exchange of information in boring and monotonous data-dumps, into a new era of fostering transformative interactions through active engagement, dialogue, technology, and even gamification. Recognising the value of everyone in the room—not just the speakers on the stage—is now crucial for the success of today's events. This consideration has to also permeate through all the phases of an event: before, during, and after.
Technology: Unleashing Its Potential
Disruptive technologies have opened up new and exciting avenues for making events more engaging and personalised. AI and digital tools now offer ways to enhance the overall attendee experience; helping to tailor frameworks by analysing attendee data, recommending personalised agendas and shaping better networking opportunities. Providing rapid access to AI generated content, on-demand, after a conference adds significant value, allowing attendees to revisit sessions and deepen their engagement immediately and more meaningfully.
Diversity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility
Reflecting the values of modern brands now means hosting events that are inclusive and accessible to all, breaking down barriers for participation regardless of physical abilities or other factors. Such a commitment also reflects a brand's positioning on social issues, transforming events from mere gatherings to powerful statements of values and principles.

Green Gatherings: Embracing Sustainability
Sustainability has shifted from being a 'nice-to-have' to a must-have. As environmental concerns increasingly influence business and societal values, events are now being called upon to showcase their commitment to sustainable practices. This includes choices around venue selection, waste management, and efforts to reduce carbon footprints. Today's audiences demand events that not only talk about environmental responsibility but also walk the walk.
Creative Engagement and Commercialisation
In our digital age, the ways we engage and commercialise events are evolving. We're moving towards more innovative and varied events that use digital and data-driven strategies to open new avenues for revenue and sponsorships. This includes designing events that weave together interactive content with wellness, sustainability, and meaningful networking opportunities, offering experiences that transcend traditional boundaries.
Wellness at the Forefront
Reflecting a wider societal trend, there's also a growing emphasis on mental and physical well-being within the event space. Incorporating wellness activities—ranging from mindfulness sessions to quiet zones and physical exercises—acknowledges the importance of attendee well-being to the overall success of any event.
In summary, as a keynote spoeaker on change and a conference facilitator around the globe, I see an industry in flux, yet one that's waking up and responding to changing needs, expectations and desires, whilst leveraging new opportunites to create more meaningful, sustainable, and inclusive events.
