Every entrepreneur should do a competitve analysis before entering his market. Although, the definition of Entrepreneurship is often defined through words like unique, different but one notable point is that an entrepreneur is always competing with someone or something, may be the current way of life if not an actual competitor.
Let's dive into the process of conducting a competitive analysis effectively:
Step 1: Define Your Market and Competitors
Identify Your Market: Clearly define the market in which you operate. Understand its size, growth rate, and characteristics.
Recognize Direct and Indirect Competitors: List not only your direct competitors but also indirect ones that offer alternative solutions to the same customer problems.
Step 2: Collect and Organize Data
Gather Comprehensive Information: Collect data on competitors’ products, pricing, marketing strategies, distribution channels, and customer experiences.
Utilize Various Sources: Use public records, their websites, customer reviews, and social media to gather information.
Step 3: Analyse and Evaluate Data
SWOT Analysis: Perform a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis for each competitor and for your own business.

Identify Trends and Patterns: Look for recurring themes in competitors’ strategies that might indicate market trends or benchmarks.
Step 4: Develop and Communicate Your UVP
Unique Value Proposition (UVP): Based on your analysis, define what makes your business unique and why customers should choose you over competitors.
Incorporate into Strategies: Ensure that your UVP is clearly communicated in all marketing and operational strategies.
