Conditional Compassion

Where are we as humans without compassion, what have we become? Compassion cannot be conditional, there can be no borders when it comes to compassion.
People are aware that I suffer from Parkinson's and the last few months getting used to various drugs has been difficult. Drugs that caused me to feel suicidal within days of taking them...scary but true. I was lost, every thought in my head was black. It was also beyond my control until I stopped taking the tablets, I had no choice.
Recently, on visiting the National Neuroscience Clinic here in Singapore, the nurse was amazing and incredibly caring and compassionate. On the other hand, the Parkinson's specialist, he was not happy with me stopping the drugs and he showed absolutely no compassion to my plight.
Last week on Friday, it came to a head and 6-holes into a round of golf, I could not take any more and called the emergency hotline. Again, the nurse was amazing and showed the most amazing compassion. In short, they arranged some drugs to help with the side effects of the Parkinson's drugs. What she did next blew me away. She called my wife privately (without my knowledge) and explained they were concerned for me as I was suffering badly, and they intimated she should keep a close eye on me over the weekend. Such unconditional compassion from such a wonderful person. The new drugs seem to be ok, fingers crossed.

The real theme of this story lies with the belief that there is a real lack of compassion and humility in this country and in society as a whole. Compassion is available, generally in women is my experience. We need more of it. We need to be around compassionate people not arrogance and elitism. Conditional compassion is useless. We need more unconditional compassion in this country and on this planet to leave a healthier environment for our children. More compassion will help us understand and humility will allow us to learn from everyone even those deemed by the elite as the dregs of society. We could have learned from Saridewi Djamani but instead we allowed the state to snuff her out and that shows appalling arrogance and a total lack of humility. See the story below.
In my case, I am aware the suicide rate here is atrocious and I can see why they were scared for my safety last weekend...imagine the headlines! Do we really want to leave such a soulless, dollar-driven, stressful environment for your kids to live?
We can do better!
