Concrete Paving Machine Learning for Humans
Minnich Manufacturing has been identifying vibration behavior and vetting concrete research data to help understand how the industry can utilize concrete paving data to forward the machine learning (ML) effort. Some find the terms connected to ML to be too far out of reach to be realized like AI assisted programing, integrated quality control testing data, and machine performance history. The construction data of past projects can ultimately help lead us to better and greener practices.
The progress in building ML has come from a unified effort by specifiers, machine manufacturers, researchers, equipment suppliers, and contractors. When you look at the complexity and variability in pavement construction, building the ML effort can appear overwhelming.? But, as you identify, eliminate, and isolate variability in the pavement construction process, measuring changes in concrete workability can make machine system adjustments much easier.
Although there is too much research findings and ongoing studies to include in this progress report, researchers have laid the foundations for ML with strides in “Real Time” testing tools. As the industry moves forward to reach sustainability goals through ML development, it is recognized that you can’t replace the human brain to make it all work. ????????
