The AfriLabs Annual Gathering, hosted by RLabs, has come to a close, and what an incredible experience it has been! Bringing together over 700 delegates from across the African continent, Cape Town became a vibrant City of innovation, collaboration, and inspiration. This year's theme, Uniting Innovation, perfectly captured the spirit of the event as thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers convened to explore pressing topics and opportunities for Africa's future.

With dynamic tracks ranging from Policy, Data & AI, and Investor & Investment to Gender Inclusion, The Green & Blue Economy, Creative Digital EconomyHomecoming, and MakerspacesLocal Innovation, we witnessed meaningful conversations and innovative solutions that address global and local challenges.

Reflecting on Our First RLabs Nodes Team Meeting: A Step Towards an Exciting 2025

We’ve just wrapped up a momentous occasion—our very first RLabs Nodes Team meeting, bringing together country representatives from all of our RLabs operating countries to South Africa. The experience has been nothing short of inspiring, and it has left us with a renewed sense of purpose and anticipation for what lies ahead in 2025.

For those who might not be familiar, RLabs Nodes are our country representatives, each playing a vital role in bringing the RLabs Model to life in their respective countries. Whether in Namibia, Tanzania, Nigeria, or elsewhere, these teams are the heartbeat of RLabs, driving innovation and change within their local ecosystems.?

During this meeting, we took time to reflect on our journey so far, unpacking key moments from past programs, partnerships, and initiatives. We celebrated the successes and milestones, but also had honest conversations about the challenges and areas where we can grow. From highlights to lowlights, it was an opportunity to learn, adapt, and make sure we are ready for the road ahead.

A special thank you to our teams from RLabs Namibia, RLabs Tanzania, and RLabs Nigeria for joining us and contributing their valuable insights. Last First Thursday was an absolute blast, and we couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who joined us to make it a night to remember! The bustling Night Market was filled with incredible food, art, and local treasures, creating the perfect vibe for an evening out. Dion Cupido’s captivating art exhibition added an extra layer of creativity, leaving everyone in awe of his talent and vision.

The live performances were nothing short of amazing! The Genesis Music Foundation set the stage on fire with its soulful beats, followed by Mitchell's Plain Music Academy which brought their unique sound. And of course, Loukmaan Adams wowed the crowd with his iconic voice, making for an unforgettable musical experience.

We’re so thankful for the energy, enthusiasm, and support each of you brought to the event. Your presence truly made the night special. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our final First Thursday of 2024 on December 5th—it’s going to be a night you won’t want to miss!

The MakerVerse AU-EU Innovation Ecosystem Summit, held at Innovation City in Cape Town on November 12-13, 2024, brought together a dynamic assembly of innovators, industry leaders, and community builders committed to advancing sustainable and inclusive manufacturing in Africa.

Among the summit’s key speakers was our very own Christine Nicola Taphel, CEO of RLabs South Africa, who delivered a heartfelt talk titled "Investing in Future Communities through Making Hope Contagious." Christine shared her journey and emphasized RLabs' foundational belief in the importance of investing in people, highlighting that building resilient communities begins with supporting individuals. She spoke on the significant role of hope and community investment, sharing that her mother’s strength and guidance have been a profound source of inspiration in her life.
