The 78th BAFTA Awards, hosted by David Tennant, is to be held at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 16th February. It showcases the best in world cinema and British film, its me 8,000 voting members participate in three rounds of voting.
Best Picture
Conclave, the brilliant thriller set in the Vatican, has the edge over Anora and The Brutalist both of which could conceivably win. The latter is favourite at the Oscars.
Outstanding British Film
Kneecap, which has 6 nominations, is a gloriously surreal triumph. Its bound to win!! Conclave will, if it doesn’t win Best Picture
Best Actress
It should be Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths, who is magnificent or Mikey Madison, superb playing a sex worker in Anora. It might be Demi Moore in The Substance which I hated and walked out of. It certainly won’t be Karla Maria Gascon for Emilia Perez after those notorious tweets.
Best Actor
Probably Adrien Brody for The Brutalist but it should be Ralph Fiennes for Conclave. Its great Hugh Grant has a nomination, for The Heretic, he is underrated!
Best Supporting Actress
Ariana Grande for Wicked or Zoe Saldana for Emilia Perez
Best Supporting Actor
Brendan Culkin for A Beautiful Pain or Guy Pearce for The Brutalist
Best Director
Sean Brady for Anora.
Film not in the English Language
Will Emilia Perez win as expected.
