It's been a while the concept of 'DevOps' is around and we can notice the rate at which software powered firms are adopting this methodology.
There is still some chaos around this approach when it comes to the what, when, where, and who parts of it.
So today I would like to talk about the concept of 'Central DevOps Teams.'
You might ask, what is the use of this team when we have our DevOps leads & architects handling everything? The team consists of experts from various roles. The central DevOps team can immensely help you increase your productivity. Instead of going to the lead or an architect everytime and wasting his/her time further, this experts team can take the pressure of solving tactical issues when it comes to DevOps.
How does this central DevOps team work?
The approach is simple, every DevOps practicing organizations will have a team consisting of experts to
- Set basic guidelines and best practices around DevOps adoption
- Recommend toolchains
- Develop a healthy relationship between Dev and Ops
- Provide a central DevOps platform that can be used by teams across the organization
- Create templates for the toolchain and platform that can help individual teams onboard in a matter of hours.
- Central DevOps teams own the “how” of your automation workflows, while individual product teams own the “what.”
This way, the pressure on individual dev and ops guy will reduce dramatically and helps them outperform by focusing on their tasks efficiently. More importantly, this approach creates a very systematic way to adopt DevOps and sets your organization up for success.

3 年I vote for central devops team working on processes , tool chains and helping the SDET engineers move on with as much agility as they can. Its difficult to match the pace of the delivery and still invent automation in day to day work. Central team can help that mission. This way the silo between central team and a spoke team can reduce and everyone enjoys being on same page. After all everyone has their role to play in the success . In my past I have seen such teams e.g IT teams, the only thing an org can do is scale them up , bring them closer to development and make them a part of delivery. To me that's an imp part of DevOps culture.
