"Concept Art is dead" or with Env Artist could become only one (Link Fixed)

Thought this provocative title, In this 2015 GDC talk, very talented concept artist Shaddy Saffadi argues that what AAA games need now are not concept artists but concept designers with a refined sensibility for storytelling, shape design and cinematic lighting.

This means abandoning some old ideas about how to do "sketches" and how to involve the client, and moving towards building mockups in 3d, kitbashing, photo bashing and utilizing new technology as it comes to help truly visualize a world that is clearly unique, tells a story and is actually fucking useful for a modeler to build off.

This is pretty much the direction always follow as someone who has shared many different positions such as Lighting TD in studios like Weta, Senior Matte Painter in MPC or Rising Sun Picture, Creative CG supervisor and Freelance Concept Artist/ Lookdev and Env artist till started doing CG and photography in 1998.

Having so much different title positions in my CV confused most studio and recruiter. I truly hope that more and more people, for Games or Films, they will understand how everything has to be linked and eventually merged in one position. My pipeline has been adapted accordingly with more and more with Houdini, from Zbrush, 3d Coat or CAD modelling software too for asset building in complement to the full procedural approach of Houdini or still wanted to give the first experiment using Generative Design with Deep Neuronal. The only other way still want very much tented for reason is to in Clarisse. What is interesting to be able now to use old methods with a more modern approach to create a vision from just a direction's discussion to a final output for Film or Games, Unreal via some existing bridge and procedural methods. Exiting :)

Now that's has been said, let's me confess, that still could spend hours to look at my top reference, Master fine Painter Craig Mullins which can't resist at least one random sample of this sublime Art... But guess this kind of hand painted pictures should happen at different steps of production
