Comton Cup 2025

It's been a few weeks, so here's an update about the 2025 Comton Cup including a list of teams registered, feedback and changes to the format of the event, the winners of the raffle and sponsorship opportunities for 2025.

2025 Event

As of today we have 25 sides registered for the next event that will take place on the 22nd June 2025:

We are holding the 2024 price (￡495 for a team of 7 players) until the end of the year and will send invoices out this month. We will be having a big push for the event at the UK Metals Expo this year with the aim of growing the event to a 40-60 team event in 2025.

Feedback and Changes

We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you think could be improved or changed so we can consider it for our next event.

Overwhelmingly the feedback was fantastic, but we did have one suggestion that we will implement for next year with regard to the timing of the food at the event.

After the group stage, we will have a short 10-15 minute interval where teams can have a snack and a drink. We will then immediately start the knockout competition with EVERY team being drawn into the Comton Cup or Comton Shield (Plate)

Food will be served as soon as the final matches in the Cup and Shield Finish and we will award prizes for Player of the Tournament, Top Goalscorer and present all trophies and Medals.

We will also attempt to reduce the food queue time by having team captains collect all team meals with sides on a free service table.

We think this will have a number of advantages. One, it will retain a higher number of players and spectators, and this will allow for more networking after the competition finishes. It also helps avoid the inevitable stiffening up of players and being bloated after the lunch break.

We will operate a wrist band system for food next year to avoid spectators trying to eat meals that had been prepared for the players.

A strict 2 substitution rule per game will be enforced next year, as some of the larger teams of 8 or 9 made more than two substitutions in multiple games giving them an advantage over smaller squads.

Sponsorship

Nero Pipeline Connections will be an event sponsor next year, but we are looking for more sponsors and a principal sponsor for the event. Please contact us to discuss this directly with us.

Sponsors will have their company branding added to all the player kits, kit bags, added to banners and posters on the day and their company websites will be added to our website as backlinks.

Raffle and Competitions

Here are the winner of the raffle:

1. The team at Righton Blackburns Plymouth (Blue 88) - Who won a ￡250 Virgin Experience Voucher courtesy of Comton Group
2. Tracy Ray of Midland Steel Distribution (Green 72) - Who won afternoon Tea at the IVY courtesy of Nero Pipeline Connections
3. Tony Whittle of Alwayse Engineering (Blue 88) - Who won a Magnum of Prosecco and a bottle of Smirnoff (Donated by Ashleigh Seabright & Scott Nash respectively)
4. And finally the winner of the 'Kick the ball through a hole' competition was Eck Stewart of Meridian Steel, who won a 4 Ball (including two buggies) round of golf at the Astbury Golf Club courtesy of NASS
