Computer Science Education & Drones

It’s not surprising to see young children and even toddlers with a tablet in their grasps these days. It becomes clear very quickly the impact that technology is having on our world today. With this ever growing standard, a new language has emerged and will become an even more vital part of our world in the future. Coding has become the new language across nearly every industry out there and is expanding its scope everyday. Just as we teach our children their first words or as they learn the colors in Spanish class, coding should become a very real part of their curriculum in schools as early on as possible. The implications and benefits for this type of knowledge are endless and there’s no easier way of acquiring these skills than with the use of drones and DroneBlocks Curriculum.

It has been seen time and time again that hands-on learning boosts students’ engagement and comprehension. STEAM Drones allows students to learn coding at a fully engaged level. They are faced with real-life problems where they can create new solutions in their own way. Learning to code using drones at a young age results in better thinkers and communicators. This is because drones allow students to follow or even create their own story line or code sequence and witness it first hand once it’s put into motion. Furthermore, learning at such a young age provides students with the opportunity to develop fluidity in their thinking which will translate not only into the coding world, but with any creative thinking problem that they may face in their lives.

STEAM Drones provides invaluable skills, knowledge, collaborative techniques, and creativity for the future ahead. It is difficult to think of any company that doesn’t have technology embedded in their processes in one way or another. With that in mind, coding will widely increase students’ potentials when it comes to securing themselves as valuable assets at any organization. Coding also gives students’ the edge over the competition for future career and job opportunities.

With this new future within our grasps, coding has become somewhat of a superpower, especially for children. In this new world, where advanced software, apps, and websites matter, it’s powerful to have the ability to create those things yourself. Coding with drones allows students to create their own path and voice that can be applied throughout every aspect of their lives. This knowledge and confidence that is acquired from STEAM Drones, empowers students to go on to create their own businesses while cutting costs, time, and effort with coding.

STEAM Drones has designed a curriculum that exposes students to a variety of programming/coding languages starting in elementary school and all the way up into high school. This STEAM / STEM educational drone program can be implemented quickly using our bundles. They provide schools and teachers with all of the necessary tools and lesson plans that they need to kick-start coding and programming in their classrooms.

With our STEAM Drones bundle, students would begin learning the basics of block style coding and test their skills on small indoor friendly drones. They would then advance on to learning Python (a programming language used by several web applications and companies like Google, YouTube, New York Stock Exchange, and even NASA). In addition, we provide the curriculum for learning JavaScript. This allows students to dive into the world of flow-based programming with Node-RED for drones. Node-RED is a powerful visual editor for developing custom software for IoT, the Internet of Things. Since the drones can be programmed using UDP this makes Node-RED a logical choice for building advanced drone missions.

Coding is the language of the future, so let’s teach our children the skills to discover success. If you’re ready to bring STEAM Drones and the coding future to your classroom, Contact Us Here.
