Computer Generated LED Lighting Design – BSS LED Australia

How do electrical contractors know if their retro fit or new lighting installations comply with the minimum lux levels specified in Australian Standards and Building Code Australia. The short answer is that without carrying out a lighting design using Computer Generated Lighting Simulation Software they probably don’t. Of course, many would simple say they take a lux reading with their hand-held meter’s post installation and this is sufficient, however, what about uniformity, glare and lumen depreciation over time? I wonder how many installations that fail to comply are re-worked by the installer? Probably none.

At BSSLED we offer a full lighting design service at no charge using IES/LDT Files to produce Relux Lighting Simulations. All our files have been produced or verified by Richard Hayes of 42 Partners in Staffordshire and allow us to accurately produce lighting designs. LED Lighting simulations can range from a simple warehouse LED lighting design to a complex street lighting proposal and include expected Lux Levels, Uniformity Calculations and 3D Modelling.

To allow us to prepare a LED lighting simulation, we need the following information:

1.    Dimensions of the Building or Area [CAD Drawings and pictures can be imported].

2.    Height of the building and mounting heights of any existing lighting.

3.    Required lighting level or building use.

4.    Information on the wall and floor colours to assist with reflective properties.

So, next time you are looking for a High Bay supplier ask the question, “Can you provide me with a lighting design that’s compliant to Australian Standards?”
