A COMPUTER ON EVERY PERSON'S DESK, NO WAY WHAT WOULD WE NEED THAT FOR?
I was working as a temp in the DuPont company. I had an email machine, a Tandy if I remember correctly.... I was standing in for an engineers group admin while she was on vacation. I had never seen anything like this before and it fascinated me. I could type question to one of the engineers, and he responded right away. No phone calls no waiting for him to return, and I was bit by the technology bug.
I wanted to know more, try more, learn more, and it started with a box, boards and drives, yes I was building my own computers.
I played with both MS DOC and PC DOS, each had their won merits and drawbacks. And yes I was one of the voices on the Operating system Bulletin Board casting my vote for each. Why PC DOS'S file structure was stricter, and gave better cohesiveness to files and directories, but MS DOS, file structure was easier to work in, and search through. I would sit up at night waiting for an answer, or a question that I wanted to be involved in resolving.
That fascination with technology, how to improve working environments and solve everyday issues through technology, has stayed with me to this day. Most people don't know my past, and I fear they see me as simply a know it all. (I do tend to come off that way) But last night I sat in a emergency waiting room, I listened to patient and visitors complain about not knowing what was going on, why the long wait, why cant i talk to a Dr, etc etc. I empathized with them, but instead of chiming in, I began working on a tech solution. I must say it was a savvy easy to implement solution too. Once I was hospitalized for an extended period of time, more than a week. I sat in my room, re-engineering it's usage to make it more efficient. I can't even help it. I know a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
