We were excited to submit a proposal for the SBIR Phase I funding through the DOE titled: Flexible Production of Regenerated Cellulose Fibers from Regionally Relevant Agriculture Biomass Residues. This was an amazing opportunity to learn and research the amazing opportunities this pathway could afford industrial hemp and agricultural “waste streams”. Unfortunately, our hard-fought battles sometimes do not turn out as we wish but we received great feedback and were encouraged towards comment periods and being involved with future bio systems NOFO releases. That’s a win in our book. Regenerative cellulose refers to fibers produced by chemically transforming cellulose extracted from natural sources like agricultural residues, including hemp and wheat straw, into high-performance fibers. The process involves breaking down non-cellulosic components such as hemicellulose and lignin, which results in dissolving pulp, a highly pure form of cellulose. This pulp can then be spun into fibers that have properties similar to those of traditional cellulose fibers like rayon or lyocell. Key Takeaways of Regenerative Cellulose: #Sustainability: Regenerative cellulose is derived from agricultural waste, such as wheat straw and hemp hurd, which are abundant and renewable. This process significantly reduces reliance on non-renewable petroleum-based synthetic fibers and forest-based fibers, offering a more sustainable alternative for the textile industry. #Environmental Impact: The use of agricultural residues reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional synthetic fiber production. Additionally, industrial hemp, a key feedstock, sequesters carbon more efficiently than traditional forest resources, capturing between 8 to 15 tonnes of CO2 per hectare. #Circular Economy: The production process enhances circularity by transforming waste materials into valuable fibers, contributing to waste reduction and promoting resource efficiency. #Economic Viability: The process leverages locally sourced materials, which can stimulate regional supply chains and reduce dependency on imports. The projected market size for regenerated cellulose is substantial, expected to reach over $42 billion by 2032, highlighting its commercial potential. #Versatility: Regenerated cellulose fibers are applicable in various industries, including textiles for fashion, military, and healthcare sectors, as well as biodegradable materials, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly products. The week of August 19th was extremely fruitful, fun and challenging for us, which quite honestly, we believe is a recipe for creation and innovation! The 2024 Techtextil North America proved to be a great turn out where we were able to showcase many of our accomplishments and hard-won battles over the last few years. Presenting our #Montana Gold Natural Fiber that successfully went into multiple textiles, non-woven progress and products developed through those processes along with our #sustainable story resonated extremely well with industry leaders and partners. The Lancaster County Hemp Circuit proved to be everything we thought and hoped it would be. For us to try and convey the relationships and foundational work being done and how impressive the turnout was, would be minimizing the impact we felt that it had. MAJOR kudos to all involved, it was truly an awesome few days! The in-depth conversations around supply chain and the overall gathering was simply top notch and we couldn’t be happier with the multiple players coming together to advance the #industrialhemp value chain! ????
Concurrent with the Hemp Industrial Materials Supply Chain Workshop was an Industry Expo where key participants could display their biobased manufactured wares products made from hemp. This made discussions around the four primary product sectors real-life by having show-and-tell examples of the state-of-the-industry. Providing space for our private sector guests was the least we could do given that the three days they invested with us in Corvallis come out of their bottom lines. We couldn’t have had a successful workshop without them. Thank you to HempWood?, Earth Merchant, PureHempNY, Bioforcetech Corporation, Rocky Boy Sustainable Development, EcoForge, Hemp Plastic Company, Callaghan Innovation, FlexForm Technologies LLC, ZILA BioWorks, Warm Springs Economic Development Corporation, Scion, Advanced Materials, QOROX?, Hempitecture, IND HEMP, ShelterWorks Ltd., Hemp Press, Just BioFiber Structural Solutions, Columbia Basin Bioscience TallWood Design Institute, florrent, and College of Forestry at Oregon State University for your handiwork on display and your insights in the breakout rooms. Your time with us was invaluable. Thank you to the Global Hemp Innovation Center’s John Simonsen, consortium lead for Building Products, Construction, and Digital Architecture, for pulling together the Expo for us all to see with our eyes and touch with our hands some of what can be done with hemp.

??AAFCO Approval for Hempseed Meal for Laying Hens ?? ?? Hemptana? Optimal Omega Laying Hen Feed Introduction ?? Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/gAqMhu-b How exciting and what a hard-fought battle that, as of this morning, marks a historic moment for the hemp industry and animal feed sector! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) has just voted to approve hemp seed meal for laying hens as a 'Tentative Ingredient Definition.' This is a first for any hemp ingredient in commercial animal feed! And we couldn't be happier! ???? This is an absolute game-changer and here is why: Hemp has been recognized for its nutritional benefits in human diets for over two decades. Yet, it’s only now being tapped into for animals. Thanks to the persistent efforts of the Hemp Feed Coalition, after four years of research and advocacy, we're paving the way for hemp in animal nutrition. This will provide multiple opportunities within the poultry industry to provide to their flocks amazing feed options we couldn't be prouder to support. We at IND HEMP are stepping our game up! With this approval, IND HEMP is proud to introduce our Hemptana? Optimal Omega Laying Hen Feed. This innovative product incorporates hemp seed meal into a 17% protein, high omega layer formula, offering superior nutrition. ?? Morgan Tweet (Elliott), CEO of IND HEMP and Executive Director of the Hemp Feed Coalition, shared: “It has been a long road over the past four years, but we are thrilled to finally introduce this ingredient into a feed product. Hemp seeds offer a balanced Omega 6:3 ratio of 3 to 1, enhancing the nutrients in eggs." The Road Ahead: This 'tentative' approval means states like Montana can start integrating this ingredient into commerce immediately. We’re launching our product locally with partners like North 40 Outfitters - CSWW, Inc. and Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply, with a broader launch at the Mid-States Distributing, LLC Ranch tradeshow later this month. At IND HEMP, our mission is to support local farm families while making agriculture more sustainable. Our Hemptana? brand stands for premium, Montana-grown products that regenerate the earth. ?? ?? Here's to helping usher in a new era of animal nutrition. Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey!
