The Compound Effect and Your Job Search
Recently I read Darren Hardy's book "The Compound Effect." This book really opened my eyes to the world of compounding in my professional and personal life. I've followed this thought process in the investments I've made, but never thought of it as something that could effect other aspects of my life.
Essentially the compound effect is doing things, little things most of the time, that move you towards your goals or an accomplishment. After some time, these things start to compound and you start to make big progress towards that goal or accomplishment.
While reading this book it had me thinking about the world we are living in right now, and more specifically, the job seekers that I talk to on a day to day basis. There is a wide range of skills these candidates have and a wide range of situations they are in as well. The little things that are sometimes required during a job search are hard to do because of how little they seem. Connecting with the person who can get you an interview immediately would obviously be the best case scenario, but highly unlikely to happen fast. Making a new connection, someone who can't necessarily help you right now, is more likely. This might not seem like something that will lead you to a new role, but it's the start of the compounding effect. Little things eventually add up to BIG things!
Job searching takes time and the ones who are most successful do the little things that help you move toward the ultimate goal of finding a new job. It's not always easy and can be frustrating at times, but I'd be happy to offer my services and help to anyone who is in search of a new role right now.
