What does the G in PET-G stand for?
Before introducing PET-G, it is important to familiarize yourself with the familiar material PET (polyethylene terephthalate). This thermoplastic polymer is the raw material for PET bottles and most synthetic fibers.
A further iteration?of PET resulted in a new polymer?PET-G, namely Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol, or Glycol-Modified Polyethylene Terephthalate. To the industry, the PET-G?is synthesized from the co-polymerization of PET with CDHM?(1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol)?in place of EG (ethylene glycol) in its polymer backbone.
Composition and properties of PET-G
PET-G usually refers to the co-polyester composed of TPA+EG+CHDM. Compared to EG, the CHDM is large and twisted, and the symmetry differs due to the difference between cis- and trans-isomers. This?bulky?CHDM introduced into the polymer structure prevents close fitting between polymer chains and makes it difficult to crystallize, therefore, when CHDM is added to a certain proportion, the crystallinity will completely disappear and become amorphous.
Thus, the inclusion of CDHM provides PET-G with significant characteristics such as higher glass transition temperature (Tg), reduced capacity to crystallize upon heat application, improved heat resistance, high transparency, and high ductility. These qualities imbue PET-G with considerable tensile modulus and strength.

At the same time, its secondary processing performance is excellent and can be conventional machining modifications.
