As the year draws to a close I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and I hope you enjoy health and happiness in 2019. Next year looks like it will be pretty momentous one way or another. Whatever your views on Brexit let's all hope that a satisfactory conclusion is reached and, although we cannot all be happy with the outcome, perhaps we can hope for reason, common sense, moderation and minimum disruption to our lives and finances!
Similarly for the Trump administration in the U.S of A perhaps. After all we are all citizens of the World and really need to work together to secure as much peace as we can get, strive for minimal poverty and save the Planet from the ravages of a warming climate. Perhaps if we all exude positivity and be nice to each other we have a chance.
So what have I been up to in 2018? Philippa (the GLW) and I enjoyed two adventures this year, travelling to Vietnam and Angkor Wat in Cambodia in January and then visiting Northern Peru in September. We are truly lucky to be able to travel as we do and both were great trips, planned by the GLW, and organised by Audley Travel.
Visiting Angkor Wat at dawn was almost a spiritual experience and travelling here, and in Vietnam, with some great drivers and guides was memorable.
In September we returned to Northern Peru, two years after our previous visit and once again marvelled at the archaeological sites and the thousands years of civilisation this wonderful country has experienced. So few travellers visit here (compared to other parts of Peru) and yet it boasts a wealth of fascinating sites including Kuelap, perched high in the mountains and showing the well preserved remains of a people who were blond, blue eyed and fair skinned. Where did they come from then?
The rest of the year I found myself travelling back and forth to Port Isaac, spending time maintaining our house there and goalie coaching - back with GB goalies again as well as working with goalies, young and old, and hopefully helping them a bit.
We let the Cornish House so here is a brazen advertisement if you fancy a break in Port Isaac (Port Wen in Doc Martin) and home of the Michelin starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw. Padstow with Rick Stein's culinary "empire" is close so this is foodie heaven!
Here is the link to our place if you are interested.
