A Compliment Is A Gift...

“A compliment is a gift, not to be thrown away care-lessly unless you want to hurt the giver.” Eleanor Hamilton

Since my last post “Do You Laugh When You Are Praised?” received such a rich outpouring of controversial comments it’s important to push on!

I’ve quoted Eleanor Hamilton above since she makes such a clear point regarding the impact on the giver when a compliment is “thrown away.” Think about it. Even if you are concerned about the sincerity of the giver, why would you offend them by ignoring, rebuking, or tossing away their compliment?

Seriously. What are you protecting when you fluff off a compliment? What’s more important to you than simply saying “Thank you.”? Certainly if you continually rebuke, laugh off, or ignore praise people will easily become trained to never again pass praise in your direction. That’s the bottom line. You’ll teach people to not compliment you. What’s the point in that?

And with that, I leave it to you to provide feedback through your Comments—and thanks in advance!

Judith Sherven, PhD and her husband Jim Sniechowski, PhD https://JudithandJim.com have developed a penetrating perspective on people’s resistance to success, which they call The Fear of Being Fabuloustm. Recognizing the power of unconscious programming to always outweigh conscious desires, they assert that no one is ever failing—they are always succeeding. The question is, at what? To learn about how this played out in the life of Whitney Houston for example, and how it may be playing out in your own life, check out their 6th book: https://WhatReally KilledWhitneyHouston.com

For a great read that relates to this topic, my husband Jim’s Leaving Home Trilogy - a three-part autobiographical fiction series based on Jim’s growing up in 1950s factory-working Polish Detroit...starts with the first book Worship Of Hollow Gods now available on Amazon in kindle and paperback - and was a #1 New Release and #1 Best Seller on Amazon. https://tinyurl.com/y8xw4ht9

I really appreciated reading about how openly disregarding a compliment, no matter the size, effects the giver not the receiver. It was an enlightening moment for me.

Put affirmations on stickies and post them around the house, car, notebook, grocery list, etc.. After you get used to reading and saying them yourself, it will be easier to hear from other people.

Word vandaag de dag te weinig gegeven aan het personeel. Ben van mening dat dit soort dingen betere resultaten opleveren en een betere werksfeer. Kortom betere cijfers lager ziekteverzuim.
