Complicated Music Business Made Easy
Attention all Music Creators, artists, and royalty holders. This is the most crucial post of your career. Via. The Presley Foundation.
It's empowering to use my royalties to buy things, and this is only possible because I understand how it all works. As Taylor Swift's ex-manager, Rick Barker taught me, it's about business music, not the music business. You can learn business music up front so you don't lose money.
This knowledge gives us control and confidence in our careers.
It gives us worth as artists to be paid.
Every song release must go through all these registrations. Of course, the release distributor may be slightly different from mine.

Royalty split
Remember, royalties are 200%, not 100%. The 50% royalty on lyrics, 50% royalty on music, and 100% royalty on publishing are split accordingly. You don't get royalties for the music if you don't create it. Also, remember to split all band members if you purchased the music outright, plus backing singers too.
Remember when you are told you get 100% of your royalties? That's only 50%. Publishing is the other 100%. Remember to negotiate that as well.

If you are not doing all this, you are not receiving all your money. If you self-manage all these things, it's a business requirement because even though you do it all for love, it's business, too.
Business name. Label name. And publishing companies are all required.
If you get signed, they do all this; if not, you do it all and make more money.
It is important to remember the split sheets with each person you work with or a payment contract if you buy songs, Music, backing, etc. so that they cannot come back later to claim royalties. Each studio you work with should sign a for-hire contract showing that you are just hiring for cash, no royalties.
Book deals are a significant royalty after you have a story to tell.
Udemy's low-cost courses in royalty management are perfect for learning from. Classes for royalties, publishing, music, and sync deals can be purchased for as low as $5 each.
I can lead you to water only!
