This pandemic is still persistent and we have recently seen the UK Go on lockdown once again. In my country Kenya, we are still toying around with the reality that the pandemic lives amongst us. Anyway, that's besides my point. I happen to still find myself sitting at the corner a coffee shop or at times at home working remotely 8 months down the line. Now, with this flexibility and new change to how work is done it got me thinking about my online security, the risks involved and also being a governance enthusiast and practitioner, how do corporate governance policies equally measure to this new development?
Now, whose role is it in your organization to security of your company data and Corporate Governance are up to task for remote work? Whomever that maybe, ask yourself.
- What remote working policies have you put in place and how effective are they?
- How well protected is your IP?
- Are you ready to handle a security breach if it happened today?
- Do the company suppliers and business partners understand and adhere to your security and governance requirements?
- Do the employees understand your security and governance requirements?
- Have you performed a risk assessment on your networks and remote work configurations (for those organisations implementing VPNs)?
- Are you actively monitoring employee data access?
As for Boards, there is need to work closely with the top management to ensure that they adapt both their workplaces and their talent management processes to keep the current staff productive and fill important skills gaps that will support growth.
