The complexities of the racist narrative - who controls the story
Why am I awake in the early hours of the morning, when most of the world is asleep? However, I also felt moved by the Holy Spirit to take a moment before I posted this.
At this juncture, I find myself compelled to address a topic that should have been relegated to the history books by now, and that is racism in 2024. With the recent release of a comment made about Diane Abbott and the hate speech she received in 2019, and the acknowledgment that we are still in a world grappling with its insidious presence. I sit down to write this article.
I am struck by a haunting question that echoes in my mind: Is there a genuine desire within our society to confront racism, or are the actions we witness merely performative gestures? Even in my questioning, I feel the tragic juvenile nature, of its presence.
Before I delve into my thoughts, these questions have led me to a poignant song by Johnny Nash, "There Are More Questions Than Answers." The lyrics resonate deeply as they encapsulate the perplexity of our existence and the myriad of uncertainties we face:
"I've asked the question time and time again Why is there so little love among men But what is life, how do we live What should we take and how much should we give"
And even within the complexities of life that I have to navigate, these questions remain ever-pertinent, especially in the context of addressing systemic racism.
One recent incident that prompts reflection is the response of Wilfred Emmanual Jones, also known as the Black Farmer, to the conversation about the statement made about Diane Abbott, and the allegations of racism within the Conservative party.
Jones is a skilled communicator and seasoned businessman, one would expect Jones to adeptly navigate such sensitive terrain. However, his handling of the situation, particularly in an interview on Newsnight where he failed to assert control over the narrative about the statement made, left much to be desired. He straddled a fence of trying to placate two sides of the wall. Using triggering language, and hasty analogies. Conflating two or three arguments with no alignment. In fact, I take that back, it was a masterclass in spin.
While loyalty was not my expectation, a more strategic approach to address the issue with dignity and integrity could have preserved the value of all parties involved. The shock value with statements like "n**** in a woodpile" was a missed opportunity, particularly considering Jones's recent business endeavours, notably the opening of a store in the heart of Brixton.

WHY NOW?
Now, please allow me to question the timing of certain revelations, as it raises my eyebrows. The resurgence of a statement regarding Diane Abbott from 2019 begs the question: why now? And why the hatred was not picked up sooner by the press?
This question prompted me to delve into the history of similar incidents—stories that were concealed only to resurface later. Understanding the motives behind such actions and their societal impact is crucial in deciphering the current state of affairs. Otherwise, they become emotional triggers with no outlet.
One such case study that exemplifies this phenomenon is the exploration of hidden figures, not just in the literal sense but also metaphorically. Lessons gleaned from past occurrences shed light on the intricacies of delayed disclosures, their implications on society, and the underlying motives driving them.
In essence, my exploration into these matters is not merely an exercise in scrutiny but a quest for understanding and enlightenment about the power of PR.
As we confront the specter of racism in real terms, it is imperative that we remain vigilant, questioning not just the actions we observe but also the intentions behind them. Only through introspection and unwavering commitment to justice can we hope to transcend the shadows of prejudice and usher in a brighter, more equitable future.
