Complex Transport of Transformer over 1800 kms by Express Global Logistics
WCA Projects
WCA Projects is an alliance comprising many of the world’s most experienced independent project forwarders
Express Global Logistics (EXG)?executed a difficult movement for a major Power Electrical Equipment manufacturer from Karjan, Gujarat, to Tyada station, Andhra Pradesh, covering 1800 km.
The cargo consisted of a transformer measuring L- 4.8 (m) x W- 2.6 (m) x H- 3.4 (m) weighing 45 MT, plus 97 oil barrels and a Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System (NIFPS).
The project was challenging as the cargo was initially transported on 6 axles for up to 1773 km. Movement beyond that was restricted due to the two mountain ranges forming the eastern and western edges causing a very narrow road.
Another challenge occurred 25 km before Srungavapukota (Skota) station. The main unit had to wait for three days for all the accessories to arrive and be offloaded to facilitate seamless rail movement through a single and very narrow approach road only 3.5m wide. The entire consignment had to be manually unloaded from the axles, trucks, and trailers and completed by a 40 m dragging operation for loading the cargo on a ramp and eventually on a wagon at Skota station, Andhra Pradesh. Multiple railway shutdowns were required to load and unload the consignment successfully on/off the railway wagons.
The team had to carefully navigate the last leg of the rail movement covering 23 km through 13 tunnels by securing the cargo and keeping its height in check.
Despite unstable climatic conditions, all safety measures were adopted to ensure the timelydelivery of the cargo successfully to the site.
