Completing the Mission
Bob Bradway
I’m excited to be leading Amgen as we harness dramatic advances in science and technology to serve patients suffering from serious diseases.
On this Veterans Day, I was pleased to join the Amgen Veterans Employee Network in paying tribute to our colleagues who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Veterans are a key source of strength for Amgen. They are mission-driven, highly resilient, and very diverse. In just the past two years, our company has hired 150 veterans – some 40% of whom are women or minorities.
I’m proud that Amgen has been recognized for several years running by the Military Times as a “Best for Vets” employer, and that our manufacturing team in Rhode Island has received the U.S. Department of Labor’s prestigious Platinum Medallion Award recognizing exceptional achievement in veteran employment.
We were joined at this year’s ceremony by Jonny Kim, the son of Korean-American immigrants, a combat-decorated Navy SEAL, a Harvard-trained physician, and, now, a NASA astronaut. Dr. Kim spoke passionately about the power of working in teams, a passion we share. He said that no mission – be it on the battlefield or in the laboratory – can be won without having teammates who trust and believe in one another. He has dedicated himself to a life of service to “complete the mission” in honor of his friends and fellow soldiers who were killed in action.
Dr. Kim, all of us at Amgen thank you for your service and for your inspirational words to us today. We extend our thanks to all those who have served our country and invite you to explore career opportunities at Amgen.
