#stervosharing #complain - best day!!! Enjoy today's sharing as it is so close to our hearts - Food!!!! And at the same time, displaying the ugly side of human nature....
I used to be very particular about taste of food. And always complain about the taste of the dishes. Either it's too Saltish, too sweet or tasteless, bland, etc... sounds familiar to you :p
Only when I was incarcerated and where I never had any choices in the dishes that was being served that I appreciated the Freedom of Choices of food and the different varieties of dishes being cooked up by different individuals. Imagine, when you have no freedom to choose and being served only either chicken breast or sardines (for meat) and white cabbage or green veggies (healthy balanced diet). And they rotate the menu on monthly basis, so Imagine eating the same menu 24 times :)
During the midway of my incarceration period, I learned to appreciate and accept what is on the table in front of me(when I understood some of Buddhism philosophy). I learned to appreciate and meditate while I ate, ie - aware of my chewing, Aware of the texture of the food, Aware of the taste it gives... etc. Once we appreciate consuming the meal on the table without having our senses over powering our mind for critical judgement, we will enjoy what is present on the table, being aware on the form, texture, taste and process, we will not complain about our food ever again and consume with joy......
For many who knows me, I will usually have my meals in silence. Not that I am anti-social. It's just that I developed my habit to appreciate the food on my table. Only when I completely finished my meal, and unless I was asked for comments, I will remark on the food based on my personal observation and taste accordingly. Of course, when I am having a business lunch or dinner, then I am adaptable and flexible to eat and talk. :p But I will never complain about my food.
For many of us , especially Singaporeans, we are very blessed with food on our table for every meal. Fly out of Singapore within 3 hours radius, you will find many unfortunate souls struggling to put food on the table... think about these souls and it help us to be contented and be Gratitude towards our blessed status in Singapore. .......
