Complacent? Or simply content?

“Never be satisfied!”
“Always push for more!”
“You can never have enough!”
Some of us say these with meaning and conviction. Others of us say them because that is what we think we’re supposed to say.
Which are you?
If you’re in the second group, it might be because we feel that society is pushing us to do so. I believe this may be because we have confused being content with being complacent.
See these definitions:
Complacent -?marked by self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies.
Content -?to limit (oneself) in requirements, desires, or actions.
Complacency?is bad?– self-satisfaction coupled with unawareness of the actual dangers. Blindly going along without true awareness is a formula for failure.
Contentment?is good?(and should not be confused with laziness or being unmotivated) – being satisfied and disciplined to limit my desires to acquire or to spend unnecessarily.
“We can either live to collect stuff or we can live to create stories. People will remember and retell a life of stories; they won’t remember the stuff.”
One purpose of growing your business is to create relationships and increase impact in your community = Stories.

1 年Complacency is marked by an unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies - this is dramatically different than limiting yourself to what you have.

1 年Love how you define this Rory, and especially how society - and certain members - keep pushing us to never be content by always going for more-more-more... if we keep pushing for more, how can we ever find time to smell the flowers and watch the butterflies? ?? ?? ??
