Competency Mapping has been around for more than 6 decades. We are aware that high performers do not necessarily mean high potentials. Some of the best sales officers make poor Marketing or Sales Managers.
We know that good managers involve in planning , organizing, staffing, budgeting, etc. This is to ensure collective performance from their teams. These are the skills front-line people would need to be assessed on to be selected for supervisory and managerial position.
In today's world managers have an added responsibility of developing people and up-skill them continually and therefore mentoring and coaching have become important functions.
These competencies should therefore be assessed and the simulations and exercises be designed accordingly.

8 年Talent is combination of demonstrated performance (transparent/metrics) and validated potential (through scientific assessment) all performers may not have high potential, they may be falling under solid citizens or soldiers category based on potential rating.. on other hand having high potential and under performing are like dark horses or emerging talent category to be groomed easing out constraints on performance like assigning right role, culture, process and people practices..

8 年In days to come we shall need to be more agile in order to survive. The skills mentioned by you like "planning , organizing, staffing, budgeting, etc. " would be relegated to sidelines. The more important skills shall be thinking(critically, innovatively & imaginatively) , listening, relating & collaborating. The so called ubiquitous "systems" prevailing in large organisations , would increasingly act as a millstone in the days of disruptive thinking. AI Tools like IBM-watson are capable of neural self-learning systems would do most of the "planning , organizing, staffing, budgeting". One may have to unlearn a lot of things.
