"Comparison is the thief of joy" is a powerful, life-changing sentiment attributed to President Theodore Roosevelt.
We often struggle with imposter syndrome, which has become all too familiar in the digital world. On social media, everyone presents perfect lives, success, and business ideas, leading to constant comparison. When we experience imposter syndrome, we are essentially comparing ourselves to others based on their skill set. It's like trying to prove how good we are at playing a sport on someone else's field.
In today's era of over-digitization and social media, we all fall victim to this type of comparison, often forgetting everything that makes us unique.
When we compare ourselves to others, we may feel inferior or superior. However, if we compare ourselves to our past selves, we can see progress, which leads to healthier self-evaluation.
Carl Jung wrote, “Only the paradox comes anywhere near to comprehending the fullness of life." The paradox is when we look backward, we see enormous changes in who we have become. But, when we look forward, we tend to belief we are going to be the same individual in the future. Today, I compared myself to the person I was three weeks ago and can see significant improvement.
