Comparison is a mindset trap

Comparison is a mindset trap

Day 25 - Comparison is a mindset trap

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Theodore Roosevelt

The killer of many dreams, ambitions and confidence is comparison.

It is almost impossible to open Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter or Facebook and not be ambushed with beautiful faces, lavish lifestyles and success stories that leave you feeling like an out of shape, undisciplined loser. It’s an unfortunate state of the social media obsessed world that we live in. But, I am here to tell you that it is not reality, it is however, made up of self promotion, sound marketing and small pieces of an overall story of the lives you follow and their content that you love to consume. If your goal is to have a stronger mindset, you have to be able to disconnect the part of your brain that compares your current situation to the curated, edited and manufactured situations you are consuming on these platforms all day long. Stay in your lane, mind your business and understand that everyone’s journey will be different and that is OK too. I know, easier said than done. Success is not an age measured item with specific timelines and standard wins accumulated in the same way for everyone. It is a personal journey with ups and downs, but comparing yourself to others the way we do today, will make you feel as if you are not living up to the bar set in social media land. Stop it! I am not you and you are not me…I cannot out you, you and you cannot out me, me. It is very much you versus you, every single day and the only comparison you should be focused on is the you of today and the you of yesterday. Win that battle.

A person with a strong mindset is one that can be completely unbothered by the wins and losses happening around them to others, because of the laser focus on the game being played in front of them, the one that they’re in. Get busy winning your race and get lost in that space for a long period of time. That’s what builds a winning and stronger mindset that will last.

Day 25 of 30 days to a stronger mindset is all about this: I will stop comparing myself to another persons journey. The reality is that if I improve everyday and compare where I am today to myself in the past, I will be on the path to long term success and a stronger mindset.
