The salinity of seawater is usually less than 5%. According to long-term experiments and actual use, it is considered that pure titanium can be safely used in seawater below 120 degrees, but crevice corrosion may occur if the temperature rises again, pitting corrosion may occur if it continues to rise. The using range of titanium in different concentrations, Ph value (3-9), temperature in NaCl solution is shown in the figure below!
In addition, Grade 7 Titanium Alloy (Ti-0.2Pd, Grade 7) and titanium-nickel-molybdenum alloy (Ti-Grade-12) can be used in high-temperature pressurized seawater of 260 degrees! The following is the maximum temperature limit of pure titanium, Ti Pd alloy(Grade7),titanium-nickel-molybdenum alloy (Grade 12) in different concentrations of magnesium chloride solution, sodium chloride solution, calcium chloride solution, beyond this limit, it will occur crevice corrosion or pitting corrosion. It can be seen that in this working condition, the Titanium Grade 7 and the titanium-nickel-molybdenum alloy are more resistant to chloride ions than the pure titanium!
Corrosion resistance: Grade 7 > Grade 12 > Pure titanium (Grade 2).
Note: In the figure, white circles indicate that they can be used; black circles represent crevice corrosion or pitting corrosion; white triangles indicate slight crevice corrosion, but do not affect the use.
In MgCl2 solution
In CagCl2 solution
In NaCl solution
The following figure shows the using range of titanium and its alloys in saturated sodium chloride solution at different PH values.
It can be said that the Grade 7 Ti-0.15Pd Alloy (UNS R52400) is not only used at a high temperature but also can be used under higher acidic conditions.
