Comparison of the Characteristics of O-rings made of Various Materials for Slurry Pumps

The O-ring is just a small part in the slurry pump, but its role cannot be ignored. Its function is to seal so that the slurry in the pump chamber does not leak. There are many kinds of materials, and different materials have different characteristics. Today, CNSME will talk about what materials O-rings are made of, and what are the characteristics of different materials.


The most commonly used material in our slurry pumps is nitrile rubber. The sealing ring of this material is characterized by good wear resistance, excellent oil resistance, and low price. Since the slurry pumped by our slurry pump is generally with particles, it is required to have better wear resistance, and NBR is the best choice at this time. However, it has poor weather resistance and should be avoided in places exposed to direct sunlight or near electrical devices that generate ozone.


Polyurethane rubber, this material has excellent mechanical strength, but poor heat resistance and chemical resistance.


Fluorobutyl rubber, the overall performance of this material is relatively balanced, and the price is not expensive. It also has a feature that is better than nitrile rubber in that it is more resistant to high temperatures. Therefore, if the higher temperature slurry is transported, the seal will generally use fluorine rubber.


Ethylene-propylene rubber, this material has excellent weather resistance, oil resistance, and poor flame resistance.


Isobutylene rubber, this material has excellent weather resistance and air tightness. It is mostly used for inner tubes of pneumatic tires, etc. Oil resistance, poor flame resistance. Fluorine rubber, this material has excellent properties, but the price will be higher. It also has a feature that is better than nitrile rubber in that it is more resistant to high temperatures. Therefore, if the higher temperature slurry is transported, the seal will generally use fluorine rubber.


Silicone rubber, this material has excellent heat resistance, but poor mechanical strength and high price.


Low elastic rubber, this material has excellent shock absorption, but poor heat resistance, cold resistance and oil resistance.
