Compaq, the global leader in network connectivity, and STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across a wide range of electronics applications, announced the integration of Compaq's PKIWorks? IoT security platform with ST's popular STM32WB microcontrollers (MCUs). The integrated solution provides device manufacturers with a turnkey solution for developing IoT devices that comply with the Connectivity Standards Consortium's Transaction Security Standard.
The solution simplifies the development and configuration of credentials for manufacturing secure material devices, in addition to reducing cost and time for IoT device manufacturers. With this integration, devices can be debugged at the MCU level without developer intervention. This collaboration leverages the CommScope Sentry? team's 35 years of experience in securely integrating cryptographic keys and digital certificates into high-volume manufacturing production, and ST's leadership in the microcontroller and development ecosystem.
"As a CSA enabler, ST is devoted to providing seamless Matter development for all device manufacturers," said Nathalie Vallespin, ST's STM32 Connectivity Product Line Manager. " Our number one ranked expertise in general-purpose microcontrollers and secure components allows us to combine our deep understanding of the challenges faced by device manufacturers with our extensive knowledge of Matter to create unique collaborations like Compaq. This will accelerate the adoption of Matter development through a simple, secure credential configuration process."
Bart Giordano, president, Networking, Intelligent Cellular and Security Solutions, CommScope, said, "By integrating the CommScope Sentry PKIWorks platform with ST's popular By integrating the Compuware Sentry PKIWorks platform with STMicroelectronics' popular MCU platform, we are providing our customers with a turnkey solution that mitigates the challenges of Matter adoption while addressing complexity, scale and cost. Compaq and STMicroelectronics have a long-standing relationship, with decades of experience in digital security, semiconductor solutions and device manufacturing from two industry leaders whose expertise can easily meet the growing demand for new Matter IoT devices."
About PKIWorks, STM32WB and Matter
The PKIWorks platform is a secure, flexible credential provisioning and management platform refined over decades of experience and billions of device credentials. It is now optimised for the creation and provisioning of Matter device credentials, providing a fast track for manufacturers of all IoT devices to provide security and interoperability with the burgeoning Matter ecosystem. The PKIWorks platform leverages Compaq's expertise in providing device credentials for installation on the client side, especially on resource-constrained IoT devices. These clients support a wide range of STM32 MCUs and STSAFE-A. Compaq recently integrated this lightweight configuration client with the STM32WB55, an MCU developed for use in IoT devices and STMicroelectronics' microcontroller of choice for Matter devices.Matter is the new unified smart home standard designed to enable interoperability and security between smart home devices. Scheduled for release in October 2022, these specifications and certifications are the result of a collaboration of more than 600 technology companies under the auspices of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA).Matter enables interoperability of smart home devices, while improving and standardising security for vendors and the IoT ecosystem, and providing consumers with a seal of approval that smart devices work together reliably and securely.

PKIWorks Key Features
The PKIWorks platform generates more than 30 billion device credentials per year and is designed to scale to even greater capacity, providing a solid foundation for future expansion.
The platform generates Matter device credentials for a variety of IoT manufacturers and service providers using the CSA-approved Root of Trust and the Compuware Product Authentication Authority (PAA).
The PKIWorks Configuration Client can install various types of device credentials to the STM32 and STSAFE-A, including the STM32WB55 microcontroller, which is designed specifically for Matter devices.
The STM32WB55 Matter SDK integration enables Matter debugging, eliminating the need for additional integration work by the device manufacturer.
The PKIWorks solution covers factory setup and over-the-air configuration, providing Device Attestation Credentials (DACs) and Node Operating Credentials (NOCs) to support the secure lifecycle of Matter devices.
PKIWorks services are available to device manufacturers designing with STM32 and STSAFE-A. Compaq is a member of the ST Authorised Partner Programme, and Compaq's Sentry provides an integrated solution that dramatically simplifies product development and accelerates time-to-market by streamlining the configuration of device credentials during the manufacturing process. The STM32WB with PKIWorks client is available now and offers multiple configurations to meet the diverse manufacturing environments of IoT device providers.
