Researchers discovered that companies are seeking interim executives at all levels, with requests for interim leadership more than doubling from our 2022 report (+116% YOY), driven in large part by a demand for interim CFOs skilled in financial controls, accounting, and audit (+76% YOY).
Business Processes are in the #2 most in demand projects in this study as leaders are also focusing on improving business processes in all functions to streamline operations and increase resilience with help from talent skilled in process optimization and transformation. To bring it all together, project management remains our #1 skill for the fifth year of this report in a row, as leaders look for expert help to drive key initiatives.
??? As companies respond with necessary cost reductions, on-demand talent can help leaders do more with less by providing critical support on projects in marketing and sales, business processes, and IT and tech transformations.

Researchers noticed that the most significant demand is in the office of the CFO, with interim CFO requests increasing by 103% YOY, buoyed by the growing complexity of and turnover in the CFO role.
Top companies are deploying highly skilled interim talent to fill critical leadership gaps, conduct capability build-outs, provide relief for leadership teams, and set the future permanent hire up for success.
?Researchers found that companies need Interim CFO for a sudden absence and lead through a major transformation and staff layoffs but also to lead finance operations, cost-benefit analysis modeling, and annual budgeting.
