Commvault's native integration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) is Solving Data Management Challenges!
Managing data with a proper Cloud Data Protection strategy is vital to a digital transformation. A holistic data management strategy allows IT to be a business data broker, influencing revenue and improving customer service.
Protecting public workloads using native tools can be complex, difficult to maintain, audit, and scale as organizations take advantage of Cloud.
For nearly two-decades, Commvault and Microsoft have been helping customers drive efficiency, effectiveness, cost savings and compliance offering business' a single data management platform and common toolset for Azure, Azure Stack, Office 365 and Microsoft SQL Server.
Much of Commvault's software is built on Microsoft technologies—which has afforded both companies the knowledge and hands-on expertise to optimize combined solutions for thousands of users. Azure users can learn more here: Developing a Blueprint for Your Data in Microsoft Azure
Recently, as I have worked (more) with customers using AWS, it's given me the opportunity and experience to leverage Commvault's native AWS integration. Below is a summary how AWS users are leveraging the Commvault data platform.

- Amazon Simple Storage Service Infrequent Access (Amazon S3-IA)
- Amazon Snowball, and Amazon Glacier for long-term data retention.
- Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
Project and Feature Highlights
- Protection for AWS-native workloads using agentless, agent, and snapshot approaches
- Data migration and conversion from on-premises Virtual Machines (VMs) and other cloud instances to AWS
- Application-consistent instance-level backups using application-aware agents
- Storage tiering, deduplication, and power management to help reduce costs
- Integration with AWS security mechanisms (IAM roles, STS Assume, and Access Keys)
- Disaster recovery with failover and failback support to/from AWS
- Global management of your AWS environment through a single, easy-to-use, web-based management console
- Agentless guest protection of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances
- Incremental Forever data protection
- Easy recovery and restore of full Amazon EC2 instances, guest files, and folders
- Protection of data residing in Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) buckets and Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) shares
- Store backups with compression, deduplication, and encryption in all tiers of AWS storage – Amazon S3 Standard, Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access, and Amazon Glacier – without requiring gateway appliances or Virtual Tape Library (VTL) emulation
- Protect Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) workloads including Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) databases
- The ability to move large volumes of data into and out of AWS via integration with AWS Snowball, AWS Snowball Edge, and AWS Snowmobile
- Support for all AWS public regions, AWS GovCloud, AWS C2S, and AWS SC2S

Final thoughts
Regardless of Cloud-provider, what I often see customers value MOST is how Commvault gives them options that create a winning formula:
(Maximum Flexibility + Leverage + Zero vendor lock) = (Competitive Market Conditions + Optimal Costs + Multi-vendor commitment + Competing vendor integration).
Why?
Because Commvault treats the public cloud just like any other backup target and applies the same data recovery and retention policies as for local disks and other devices. All underlying technologies that power a complete backup and recovery - security, encryption, deduplication, ect. - Can ALL be extended to the cloud without complex scripting or connectivity, integrated into a single end-to-end solution (with workflows and simplified image creation) to reduce backup costs and risks.
Whether your workloads are in AWS or Azure, Commvault lets you extend that flexibility to data protection with a fully-integrated solutions that help meet customer's data protection needs!
