wow. what an unreal and unbelievably crazy week for me and the torc.dev team!! i’m currently typing this newsletter after just rolling out of bed in guadalajara at 8:39 local time (9:39 CST time). to be honest with you I think i’m fighting a cold. my body is just absolutely shot from all the travel this week but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. this week has probably been one of the most meaningful weeks in my career. when I started recruiting back in 2011 one of my mentors told me that you will have moments where you feel like you climb another mountain top, where you level up, and where you feel a huge push of momentum and this is what of those weeks.
again, what is so fun about this job is one week my team and I are focused on growing latam numbers (i.e. last week) then fast forward to this past week and it was all about throwing events, meeting new people, and introducing people to who torc.dev is in person! i want to give a shout out to briana and angelos on my team for absolutely crushing the organization and logistics of the two events we threw. the first event was an 80+ person meetup in raleigh during all things open. we had the opportunity to partner with downtown techies and renderatl, both organizations with massive communities.
i tend to think about how many ‘collabs’ we can do with other companies. just like how kith (the fashion brand) does collabs with different designers or how rappers have other rappers on their albums. i think that’s something not a lot of tech companies do and we are going to continue to do more collabs in the near future with some specifically branded swag too:) again, i pull a lot of how we do things in tech from other communities and brands outside of tech.
fast forward a few days later…briana and I are down in guadalajara hosting our very first torc.dev in person event which was a private dinner for community leaders in the area! we had an amazing turnout of 12 individuals where some traveled over TWO HOURS to eat dinner with us! (we had people show up i promise)
it was amazing getting to know the tech climate and the communities here in guadalajara. i truly believe southern baptist got it right, the best way to someones heart is through their stomach lol. we are also down here for jsconfmx where i will be speaking today on the power of community on your career and i am super pumped about this talk!
