Community Update Oct 23
Kia ora?e hoa,
We're excited to share that going?forward?we will run two types of public events!
Seminars
Designed as practical, hands-on events?to add rungs to your tool belt & story pool, you can expect to seminars to pop up quarterly - either online or in person with a live stream into our community forum. These are ticketed events but if?you've been considering a membership, know that?these will be included in?Team, Friend and Fan?memberships from now on.
For this month's seminar, we have?partnered up with the awesome team at NeuroSpot for a deep dive into behavioural science. Through a panel discussion, you'll hear from behavioural designers & specialists at One New Zealand and Fonterra about what parts of behavioural science lend themselves to design, and how we can leverage their expertise to deliver better for customers and organisations.?
Book Club
Book club is a free quarterly kōrero around a topic of common interest - framed by a book, article or podcast to help us get the conversation started. Get to know our community and explore new ideas and perspectives during this informal lunch time conversation. Anybody is welcome to join.
If you're a solo or small team practice, you might like to come along to the November Book Club - which is all about exploring the challenges and opportunities?of those trying to make big shifts in small numbers. We're using a short article as a pre-read to get us started and then let your experiences, stories and questions guide the conversations. It'd be fab to see you there!? Ka kite! Sarah & the CXC team
Speaker Spotlight
Members are coming together today for Craft Conversations. A chance to?hear from Barry McGonagle-Daly in conversation with our Community Host Jodi Meadows on the highs and lows of building a design practice at Auckland Transport.? ?
Barry is Auckland Transport's Human-centred Design practice Lead and has worked there since moving to Aotearoa at the end of 2019. His career has been eclectic, moving through fraud prevention and risk management in the banking sector, process optimisation, project management and consultancy, a musician and professional actor for a while (and still) before landing into service and human-centred design! A varied career yes, but he believes this experience makes him a better designer.
In every role over Barry's career his focus has always been on the human need. Passionate about understanding people's experiences, exploring their diversity and supporting their growth, finding better ways and growing through learning is the centre of his practice.
He is married 7 years to his Kiwi husband, and lives in Auckland with their adopted son and 2 dogs. When he's not being a husband, dad and designer, he also likes to run, take long walks with his whānau and dogs, eat good food, travel and go to the theatre.
