Community in Tech: You will never belong alone

Community in Tech: You will never belong alone

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We could not think of a better occasion to flag the importance of being a part of the WomenTech Network community and thank you all for your ongoing, heartfelt support throughout the years. We've prepared a small surprise for you, so read on:

Why are tech communities important?

One might ask, “Are these communities even necessary?”. The role of tech communities in your professional and even personal life cannot be overemphasized. A recent poll ran by WomenTech Network revealed that 37% of respondents believe they need to be perfect to succeed in tech and 33% think they need to do everything on their own. This self-sufficient behavior creates obstacles to reaping the benefits of teamwork, discussion, idea exchange, productivity, and inspiration. Trying to cope with everything individually is a blocker at the heart of it.

Being a part of a tech community, on the other hand, gives you a "shelter". It cultivates a group of people who celebrate each others' accomplishments, share their career wisdom, and gives them an outlet to express themselves, while making sure they stay motivated during their journey. Tech communities are inspirational and give opportunity to its members to pay it forward by igniting others to follow their passion.

How does WTN support its community members?

Outlined below are some of our ways to strengthen your position in tech, help you find your voice and grow your career.

Finding and pursuing your passion:

Being a part of the WTN community presents you with the chance to gain expertise in the niche that most interests you and explore all your other passions within it. Some tech experts get bogged down to their current tasks, underestimating the innovative trends and tools that emerge. The WTN community provides opportunities for you to stay up to date with latest tech developments by selecting top-notch speakers for the Women in Tech Global Awards & Inspire Summit and the Women in Tech Global Conference. Our team works hard throughout the year to offer memorable experiences for you, as a valued community member, and celebrates your success as our own.

Mentorship:

Research highlights that 57% of women in tech see lack of role models as one of the biggest obstacles to their career advancement. By joining the WTN group, you surround yourself with other like-minded professionals in the tech field. You also have access to successful pioneers who can provide wisdom and guidance through advice and mentorship. Our mentorship program can help you reach your next career milestone, develop a valuable support network and expand your knowledge as a mentee, and increase your visibility, while helping you develop your leadership as a mentor. The program is free of charge and available to all members of our community.

An Impact Platform:

Everyone, regardless of their current career journey stage, has a story to tell and has a story to listen to. Storytelling empowers people to learn and get encouraged to share their own struggles. The WTN community is here to remind you - you are not alone. We often get feedback how Conference attendees or Awards participants get inspired by success stories. “If she could do it, I can too” is powerful to the extent of life-changing. We are grateful to be one of the change catalysts by helping you improve upon existing skills: whether you choose to become part of the Women in Tech Council or to stand out as an Ambassador, we support your ambition, curiosity and interests.

The WomenTech Network community may remind you of home because it aims to create a safe space for you to feel open, candid, and seek advice from others. Somewhere where vulnerability is appreciated and safeguarded.

Resources:

Sharing useful content is a constant for our community. We see resources provision not only as a way to deliver value to our members, but also to gain a deeper understanding of how they feel regarding certain sensitive topics such as the gender and pay gap for women in tech. We try to create useful articles with tangible actions or advice to test and apply to your career life, and let us know whether or not it has enriched you. By sharing content, running polls and sending out newsletters, we aim to reduce the “gatekeep” culture and welcome you to contribute with your thoughts or experiences.

However, content is not the only type of resource available to the WTN community. The most valuable and important resource that we share are the people and opportunities we introduce you to during our events, on our groups or through our jobs portal. We perpetually seek to foster learning, growth, and motivation for our community members.

We are very grateful for having you as a part of our community.

You belong to the WTN community!

And the great thing about it is that you will never belong alone here.

In honor of Thanksgiving we'd like to express our extra gratitude to our incredible community by offering those who comment below the chance to win free tickets to the WTGC 2023.

Answer the question "What are you grateful for?" AND tag somebody who you think can benefit from joining the community (they will also be included in the raffle). Winners will be announced on December, 2.

Love and thanks,

The WTN Team
