This past week I road-tripped through the north-eastern part of South Africa in Mpumalanga to visit three of our Non-Profit clients. Their income generation projects started 2 years ago but were delayed due to COVID, are well underway now and were ready for a number of launch celebrations.
We have been able to utilise each organisation’s existing reach into the community and their current offerings to carve out niche projects that will not only further assist the community, but also bring in much-needed bridge finance to cover costs and pay core expenses for the organisations.
These projects included two community food gardens delivering both vegetables and fruit, a drop & go laundry, an office admin service, and a snail farm. Yes, snails are now big business as a farming commodity in South Africa. ?
Developing sustainable strategies has become a key must-have activity for any social organisation looking to still be around in the long term. Our defined methodology gives a new dimension to the Strategy Document allowing for alternative forms of income streams apart from donations and fundraising activities. These are then set up as separate projects and planned, implemented and monitored as such until they can be fully integrated into the organisation.?
