Community and Serving our Veteran Families

The corporate values of Embrace Home Loans include Community as one of our core pillars. Community values people and relationships over all else. It is about being "in it together". Community creates unity through mutual care, kindness and respect. It creates a sense of belonging, as well as a want to belong.

To show our appreciation for our injured veterans and their families, the Rockville office of Embrace Home Loans delivered and served a complete dinner service to 50 residents of the Fisher House at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. The Fisher House is dedicated to supporting the needs of our greatest national treasure - our military service members and their families. We were honored to support this wonderful cause, hoping to make their accommodations just a little more like home.

For me personally, the best part of our visit was meeting with the family members, thanking them for their honor and service, and hearing their stories of sacrifice. It was very moving. My most touching conversation was with a father who was staying there as his son recovers from an IED explosion in 2017 that blew up his transport vehicle and was paralyzed. The father shared with me his 21 year old son's story of commitment to service and country, pictures of his son before the incident, and his proudest moment when he received the Purple Heart from the President while laying in his hospital bed. This was very real, not television, not political, and terribly genuine. As we each experience challenges and frustrations, imagine how that young serviceman and his family are dealing with their issues - I think our problems pale mightily by comparison.

As we cleaned up after dinner and prepared to leave, I think each of my team members were touched by the experience. Whenever you take on any type of community service, I am convinced that the gratitude and humility you gain so far exceeds the gifts you may have delivered. I was very proud to lead our team in this effort, it was a great shared experience, and I am thankful Embrace Home Loans encourages and supports our employee efforts to being "in it together".
