Community matters!

Community matters!

Or at least it matters to me!

I have decided to teach yoga and meditation in the local community hall and support the longevity not just of the participants of my classes, but of this institution as well.

Harmony Hall, in the heart of Walthamstow, just off the famous High Street and the longest outdoor market in Europe is about to close and be sold.

With its rich history in providing for local workers, youth and the community generally over generations, currently around 70 local groups, faith groups across all cultures, mental health groups for all ages, language classes of all kinds, children and youth activities and much more - are all welcomed into this lovely characterful and homely building. But the owners registered charity called Livability and have decided to sell-off the building.

The Charity Crest who has managed the building on behalf of Livability for over 20 years are up against an enormous task to try and raise £1 million to buy the building has so far failed. The possibility of closure is terrible news.

The inscription over the entrance reads “Harmony Hall a multi-cultural family center serving the people of central Walthamstow”. The Hall was trusted to the people of Walthamstow in the 1930s and has been integral to the wider community for decades.

A process of empowering everyone to get involved in the local community matters is empowering for recognition of the value of simple, obvious things, like the place to meet or have a yoga class.

If I want to help Walthamstow residents progress toward improved health and well-being, through the practice of yoga, breathing exercises and meditation, what we practice every Friday in Harmony Hall, I need to make sure this place stays alive!

Happy Stance Yoga Therapy commits to it.

I choose to teach in the community center rather that yoga studio since I believe in the power of the local community!

And together we can save our health and our Harmony Hall!
