I'm writing this as I head out for day 2 of selling wristbands at the local county fair. Community makes things happen because we need each other. How fun is it to see people come out of their homes during a county fair and we see how everyone matters. I was inspired yesterday to see the local school district take 175 kids from their summer day care program to the county fair. I watched a local nursing home run their bus back and forth bringing their residents in wheelchairs to the fair for a short visit. What an amazing expression of love for all generations to have a place to come and have fun.
Here are other ways that community makes things happen and these are the real-life communities in my life:
- Community gardens bring master gardeners with rookie gardeners (me) to a place where they can learn from each other.
- Entrepreneur incubators create a space where entrepreneurs and experts can build community to share ideas and launch visions.
- Local vendor retail shops bring pickers and start ups into a space where they can leverage customers, share ideas and build their micro businesses.
- Chambers create a space for local business leaders to network, share information and give back to the community.
- Christian churches offer a place to worship and also be hands and feet of Jesus to give back to their communities through volunteerism, prayer and youth programming.
- Mastermind groups offer a niche group of people who are passionate about a topic that you are. Through conversations each person shares and grows in their knowledge and influence of their world.
- Nonprofit fundraisers give community an opportunity to financially support their local nonprofits that are close to their heart. I'm jumping into a lake in Feb 2024 in Minnesota for a cause!
What is your community? Let me know how you are leveraging community to make things happen in your life. Have a great weekend.
