Community Love In Full Effect

Our Certified Nursing Assistance program's recent graduation proved to again be one of most inspiring parts of my job. It is so fulfilling to see our cohort students achieve a career goal. And, it isn’t just about gaining the training and passing the test. It is landing the job and receiving holistic support so that graduates can be successful in all areas of life. We always have a guest speaker and this time program alum Taneisha Dewdney delivered words of inspiration. She shared how much the program meant to her and how she has continued to grow. She landed a job at Moffitt Cancer Center, loves it and is back in school to get her bachelor’s in Nursing (Moffitt is covering her tuition). Incredible. It is these moments that really demonstrate the importance of our work and our partnerships. We are changing lives one person at a time, and as you'll read below, we have more stars in the making.

We are so grateful to all of our volunteers who took time to support our 32nd annual Week of Caring! Throughout the week, 350- plus volunteers showed up at 33 nonprofit organizations throughout our five-county service area to sort food donations, create hygiene kits, read with children, paint murals and houses, serve meals, and more. Our work at United Way Suncoast would not be possible without our amazing volunteers and we are excited to continue this transformational work with you as we begin our second century of service. Thank you for making this event a success!

Keeping Dave In Our Hearts

The Tampa Bay Lightning posthumously honored former Florida Blue West Florida market director Dave Pizzo as a Community Hero at the April 25th playoff game. Dave's family chose to divide the $50,000 award between four of Dave's favorite charities: Metropolitan Ministries, Feeding Tampa Bay, American Cancer Society and United Way Suncoast. We will hold Dave in our hearts for his steadfast dedication to not only volunteering for United Way Suncoast, but expanding our group of supporters. Dave didn't preach to the choir, he grew the choir.
