The Community Leader's Mandate - and Challenge
The mandate of a
Community Leader is
to work themself out of a job.
A Community is a group of all leaders, a decentralized group of empowered people who work and play together and communicate and collaborate seamlessly. This relates to the paradox of Community Leadership - and the challenge.
The Challenge of a Community Leader;
to share the leadership.
Once the Community leader has facilitated the group's evolution into Community, they take an among-the-ranks position. It's not easy for a leader to relinquish the position of power - to share that power - especially for those of us who are natural leaders. But it is an essential characteristic of a true Community.
But, once the group has (and not before) evolved into Community, this is possible. It is the process, the work involved in building themselves into Community, that makes it possible. So the order is; first build Community and then watch your role in the group change.
Are you up for the challenge?
