Community Investment Program 2021 Report
Community Investment Program: Our community investment program is supported at the corporate, local, and employee levels. This program was created to show our commitment to protecting life below water, encourage decent work and economic growth, and promote good health and well-being.
Ceres offers every full-time employee 40 hours of paid community service per year. For every 10 hours of volunteer time, employees will receive a $100 Ceres Cause Card for donation to any one of the Ceres Causes: World Wildlife Foundation, Mercy Ships, Covenant House, The Mission to Seafarers, and Scholarships for Students. That is roughly 8,000 community hours and $80,000 dollars that we have budgeted to donate to corporate community-sponsored non-profits per year.
We recognize the importance of serving our local communities. We feel strongly about being good stewards of the environment and communities where we work and live. According to Forbes, “a?survey of millennials’ work habits indicates that 86% of Generation Y workers greatly value their companies’ corporate social responsibility programs and would quit their jobs if those programs started to slip.” At Ceres, we understand the importance of social responsibility and being good stewards of the environment. We don’t just move cargo; we move businesses forward. One way that we help move businesses forward is through our community investment program.
In 2021, Ceres held five corporate community events at our locations across North America. We started off the year with a World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) Race for Love where our employees raised $1,980 for WWF. We led the race and finished strong as the top company in the race to raise the most money and overall employee participation.
For International Workers Memorial Day, we donated $6,000 to One Tree Planted. We planted 6,000 trees across North America on behalf of the 6,000 workers that have lost their lives due to accidents in their work environments.
In the summer, Ceres held a corporate beach cleanup for our locations. June 18th was World Oceans Day, so we cleaned our local beaches, rivers, and streams to help take care of our environment. The event was well-received throughout the organization and we hope to host a beach cleanup in the future.
At the end of 2021, Ceres placed a focus on helping families. We held toy and food drives from October through December 2021. The fall and winter months can be stressful for families as they wonder where food and toys will come from. Ceres is dedicated to annually helping families feed their children and providing toys, so they can give them a wonderful holiday season of laughter and smiles. We plan on hosting toy and food drives in 2022.
