Communications impact

When I joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2018 as Chief of Communications & Strategic Events, I was determined to raise the visibility of this special initiative of the Secretary-General.

For 18 years, my colleagues around the world had been doing such great work with the private sector but it just wasn’t getting the recognition it deserved. Not enough people in the private sector (or the UN for that matter) knew what the UN Global Compact did nor how successful it was in driving companies to be more principled and sustainable.

My team wanted to see how much we could change that and set up a system to measure our communications impact year on year.

This 2022 Communication Impact report shows our progress and tells the story of a small but mighty UN initiative that is engaging business leaders the world over and pushing for meaningful change.

Change that not only makes the world a better place but also drives profit.

As I begin my fifth year at the UN Global Compact, I am grateful for the impact my talented communication colleagues and our brilliant CEO Sanda Ojiambo , Assistant Secretary-General, have achieved and look forward to finding new and better ways to communicate the value of what our founder Kofi Annan described as “a creative partnership between the United Nations and the private sector.”
