Communication of Technology through Design
Paris Motor Show 2022 - a retrospective
Although the show was noticeably small in brand attendance, with many OEMs opting for digital platform product launches, Paris was dominated by its home brands and a wave of Chinese brands emerging in the European market, highlighting some clear design trends.??
The clear take away of the show was the focus on Hydrogen power. With electrified models being very much expected, new product launches from Start-up brands including the high performance Hopium and NAMX, with its removable Hydrogen tanks, were the highlights in showcasing Hydrogen Power.?
There was a wide offering in adventure lifestyle concepts from Jeep, Dacia and Renault, showcasing that SUVs are becoming the new entry-level portfolio product replacing the hatchback.?
There was also a growing trend in micro mobility, with Renault’s specific sub-brand Mobilize, a sharing platform that looks to utilise the L7 Segment that can be hired and driven by users as young as 14 in France.?
Across the board there was a clear trend: the communication of technology with design. This was demonstrated through integrated solutions and exposed electronic details.
With new powertrains come new requirements creating new design identities, Hopium’s full width active parametric grille, opening and closing on cooling demand creates a unique identity visually separated from electrified vehicles.?

2 年Great write up. It is very interesting to see the removable hydrogen cells by Namx. Do they go deeper into the car when the panel is closed Carsten Astheimer ? It seems like they are a little too close to a key impact area.
