Communication Technology in the Healthcare Setting, Ethical and Legal Dilemmas by Josh Hyatt
The devices used can create a set of problems. Attempting to secure information and data with handheld devices such as cellphones or iPads for the purposes of electronic communication is a daunting task. These devices can hold as much as 6,000 Microsoft Word documents, which is an incredible amount of data. The risks related to inappropriate disclosure or access related to theft or loss of the device, improper disposal, access by an unauthorized individual, and even signal interception are real threats to patient confidentiality and privacy. The proliferation of these technologies plays themselves out in facilities and institutions as well.
